New Laws Have Been Announced For The Treatment Of Children And Where You Can Take Them

New laws have been passed regarding the treatment of minors, as passed by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The laws are designed to protect children, with 23 new clauses passed within the resolution.

The laws, known as Wadeema’s Law (named in memory of an 8-year-old girl who was tortured to death by her father and a woman), according to the Dubai Media Office: “is designed to protect children from birth to puberty from a variety of forms of abuse, including physical, verbal and psychological abuse.”

New resolutions include:

  • Minors between the ages of 15-18 years of age may work, but must obtain written consent to work from their parents as well as a government approval
  • Children are not allowed in venues that qualify as ‘adult entertainment areas’
  • Parents are not allowed to take children to places where smoking is allowed
  • Children are banned from visiting factories where heavy machinery is being used
