Cause behind the fire remains unconfirmed

No official confirmation’s received on the cause of the fire, however few residents suggest that it could’ve been a smoker’s mishap.

“There were cartons stored in the ground floor parking area for about two weeks. It seems like that the fire started when someone who was smoking ignited them” said Yasmin Rahi to Lovin’ Dubai.

Many among the residents were quick to notice the smoke and evacuate to safety. No injuries were reported, but the emotional and material loss has left many shaken.

Most fires are preventable

Fires across residential spaces start with a simple mistake that ends up costing a lot. Reports by the National and Khaleej Times from 2018 to 2020 suggest that carelessly discarded cigarettes are one of the leading causes of fire in buildings.

Those years alone there were over 196 fires reported, and 30+ of them caused by objects such as charcoal and cigarette butts. Many of which eventually lead to loss of property and injuries among people.

Speaking in regard to this, another resident Juliana Camillo said to Lovin’ Dubai that people need to be “warned to stop throwing cigarette butts”.

While residents continue to wait on official updates, the incident serves as a sobering reminder for people to be a lot more careful of their surroundings.
