A 33-year-old woman, who was head of accounts at an Abu Dhabi institution, has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling AED 11 million from her work place.
The woman used the money to fund the lavish life of her boyfriend, a 26-year-old man, who had promised to marry her.
According to local reports the woman used the money to cover the man’s debts, fund European trips with business class tickets, purchase cars, number plates, watches, and clothes. She also gave money to her boyfriend’s brother.
It transpired her ‘fiance’ was in fact already married and had no intentions of marrying the woman.
Both he and his brother have also been arrested for manipulating the woman in this situation.
A representative for Abu Dhabi police said through seizing goods, they have managed to recover part of the losses.
The woman confessed, citing wanting to appear well off to her friends and boyfriend as the reason for her crimes.
All three will face the Public Prosecution
