A 62-year-old Emirati woman has had her prison term reduced from seven years, down to three for beating and starving her housemaid to death in Bur Dubai.
The woman appealed her jail time at the Court of First Instance this week, grounds for the reduction have not been publicised.
The woman was convicted for deprivation of freedom, and false imprisonment after she locked the maid up in the villa with no access to food.
Police found the woman’s body in September 2015, in the house, where the Emirati woman told police she had fallen – however a medical examination found the cause of death to be starvation.
According to police reports, the refrigerator door was locked, as were cupboards, and the windows and gate to the villa were surrounded with wire, keeping the woman captive.
