Last month, we reported a whopping AED 12 billion was being spent on a YAS island refurb and as more details emerge and designs are released it’s clear that the new venture is set to be epic.
There is a new a public waterfront which will come to be known as Yas Bay in the pipeline, along with a massive all-rounder indoor entertainment venue, with a capacity to host 18,000 people for sports, entertainment or other purposes and an indoor 500-seater performance theatre. It’s all part of a bigger AED 3 billion project from Abu Dhabi developer Miral in partnership with HOK a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm.
Yas Island, which already features Ferrari World, Yas Mall and the Yas Island Formula 1 Circuit will welcome the new development.
“Our goal is to create an exceptional entertainment experience for fans and spectators,” Yas Arena will be the centerpiece of the development and serve as a destination on Yas Island.”
“Our team knew the building needed to be smart, adaptable and technologically-advanced in order to efficiently transform for the wide variety of events the client wished to host,” added Rhodes. “This transformability will make Yas Arena one of the most sophisticated arenas in the world.”
John Rhodes, a director of HOK’s Sports, Recreation and Entertainment practice
A 1.6 million square ft. park spanning six themes and including 29 different attractions and rides had an opening date of 2018 when we first heard news of the build two months ago.
