PICS: Get To Know The Al Fahidi District – One Of Dubai’s Oldest Heritage Sites

Avatar

The Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood, also known as Bastakiya, in Bur Dubai is one of Dubai’s oldest historical districts, where traditional architecture and culture still reign.

Within the buildings here you’ll find cultural and artistic attractions and cafes and restaurants, absolutely perfect for a weekend afternoon wander. The area is accessible by the Al Fahidi bus stop and Al Fahidi Metro station.

The following pictures were captured by @ibahzad, here’s what you need to know…

The 1787 Al Fahidi Musuem and Fort is the oldest building in Dubai and a must-see if you’re visiting the area

The traditional architecture shows a limited number of front windows, set high in each building, a sign of a culture that respects privacy

The area is 31,000 square metres and there is no charge to explore the tiny streets

The photographers work is always a well-appointed balance of the old and the new
