Spotted in Dubai

Avatar

This week in Dubai we’ve had everyone from metaphorical stars like Wayne Rooney, to people who live in the stars like Chris Hadfield. Read on to find out more…

Photographers…

We all like to have a go at being arty on our Instagram but these last couple of weeks we’ve been given a few lessons in how to achieve that desired artistic status, as world famous Mario Testino has been in town for the opening of his first exhibition in the Middle East. Unsurprisingly he has been spending his time in Dubai doing what he does best…taking photos. Have a look at some of these beauties and take some notes (maybe this will help you spend less time on Insta deliberating between Valencia and X-Pro II in future).

Footballers…

Hands up who fancies being an injured footballer? Is there a better way to spend your time off work than playing with tigers and hanging out with DJs in Dubai? Wayne Rooney obviously decided that rather than moping around in snowy Manchester to recover from his knee injury, that his time would be better spent heading to Dubai for some fun in the sun. Next time I pick up an injury at work I may follow his lead and head to the zoo.

Fitness freaks…

Joe Wicks AKA The Body Coach was in Dubai this week as part of Emirates Lit Fest and he was looking pretty hot! As well as finding time to give a talk on nutrition and his training methods, he took part in a fair few photoshoots for local mags.

Dancers…

Karen and Kevin Clifton, stars of the UK dance show Strictly Come Dancing, decided that a holiday to the Maldives wouldn’t quite be complete without checking in* to Dubai on the way home. Next time, why not stay long enough for a full night of dancing guys…may we suggest Barasti?

*The way the process of stopping and getting ready to change direction in the dance world is referred to as ‘checking’ in just in case you didn’t catch my quip.

Model/Actresses…

Miss Teen World, Amy Jackson, asked her followers to guess where paradise was…thanks for the compliment, love from Dubai.

Reality Stars…

Jordan Reed from MTV series the The Valleys swapped Cardiff for The Madinat Jumeirah, where he performed a DJ set at Pacha… good call if you ask us, just don’t ask us to switch from Dubai to the Valleys.

Rally Drivers…

American rally driver Ken Block has been back in Dubai, piloting his world-famous Ford Fiesta RX43. Having seen a few of these snaps we reckon he might even give the local Dubai taxi drivers a run for their money in a race along Sheikh Zayed!

You Tubers…

The Russian YouTube prankster Vitaly has been in Dubai making a new prank video. Can’t wait to see what it is, although having seen some of his hitman stunts let’s hope he didn’t pick on any of the wrong guys out here!

Fellow YouTuber @bystaxx switched adventure video gaming for some real life adventure in Dubai, as he took on the sand for some boarding and dune bashing. Have a look to see how he got on in the real world without a gaming controller to help…at least he will have got to see that the graphics are better in real life!

and even Astronauts…

If you’ve been up the Burj Khalifa on a cloudy day then you may feel like you’ve been to space. However one of the few men who is used to life even higher than the Burj has been in town this week. See some snaps below of Chris Hadfield, the astronaut fresh back to Earth after living aboard ISS as Commander of Expedition 35 inspiring locals at the Emirates Lit Fest

…And if you wondered what Dubai looks like from space then have a look at this exceptionally cool picture that NASA astronaut Tim Kopra Tweeted of the Palm Jumeriah from his Spacestation home (admit it, who now wants to live in a Spacestation?)

Guess who’s back in Dubai!?

Nicki Minaj has landed in Dubai ahead of her performance tonight at The Outlet Mall, the final leg of her The Pinkprint tour. It’s not long since she was here last and she is growing fond of the place, you never know, she may even move here!

See below for a round up of all the celebs spotted in Dubai this past week.

TOWIE Stars…

This week we had Mr Essex himself over to visit.

Always good to have you out here Joey but one thing to note – you aren’t in Essex any more so you don’t need to add the sun into the picture now, it’s right there in the sky where it should be (except during these freak storms that we’ve been having recently):

Joey has been giving us a few lessons in how to speak Essex in Dubai. We aren’t sure that there are direct translations for ‘reem’ and ‘sick’ in Arabic, however we consider it a seal of approval from Joey for his time in Dubai so thank you!

Singers…

We think Dubai already has the X Factor, but it received a little bit more this week when Tulisa came to visit.

Touched down. Hello Dubai #MyDubai ❤️☀️

She found some time to do a city tour via helicopter whilst out here…next time we recommend taking some pictures of the incredible view from up there! For now though, this will do:

Sometimes when you are negotiating the Sheikh Zayed road or waiting for a drink on Ladies Night, it can seem as though everything is a bit hectic and stressful in Dubai. Below, Tulisa shows us that you can get in touch with your tranquil side whilst out here pretty easily:

Our singing talent in Dubai received another boost this week as Lebanese singer Elissa was also in the city to perform at a concert at the Dubai World Trade Center alongside UAE singer Hussain Al Jassmi.

If that wasn’t enough for you then Nancy Ajram was also in town, elevating Dubai’s vocal chord credentials to maximum level.

Boybands…

This week we were given the opportunity to see a visit to Dubai through the eyes of a boyband, as Irish whipper-snappers HomeTown were in our…home town (couldn’t resist the pun).

Firstly, for anyone planning a visit to Dubai then Dayl has kindly provided a check list of what to bring with you (cereal optional):

Dayl

Once you’ve done all that, get yourself on a flight and plug your headphones in (you don’t have to listen to HomeTown but they seem like nice boys so give them a shot):

Next, sort yourself out with some decent WiFi:

Ryan

Once your WiFi is sorted get yourself to a pool with a killer view so that you can upload a photo to make all your friends jealous:

Then make sure you have your white shirt ready (we hear it is the best colour to deal with heat):

And what better venue to head to on St Patrick’s Day, or any other day when you’re thirsty come to think of it, than McGettigan’s:

Mc G

We aren’t sure what ‘deadly’ means (not quite as down with the kids as we once were) but we can only assume that the lads lived it up and had a belter in Dubai. You’re welcome back any time boys:

Final lesson – just make sure to get some sleep on the flight and re-adjust to your HomeTown timings (sorry!):

Olympians…

Tom Daley, Olympic bronze medal winner for Team GB in London 2012 for diving, was in town for the Dubai World Series.

We can’t think of anywhere better to bronze yourself and dive into water than out here, good call Tom!

We think we have a bit of a way to go on our diving routine to match these guys…not sure our cannon ball into the pool at Media One last year would cut it based on this video:

Cricketers…

Michael Vaughan & Graeme Smith launch the OSN T20 fan zone

The T20 World Cup is upon us and where better for the cricket pundits to set up camp than the Emirates Golf Club, well done whoever came up with that idea!

Below is Graeme Smith launching the event – be sure to check it out (even if you just fancy a drink under the pretense of ‘enjoying the cricket’):

Below Michael Vaughan enjoys the match with some of the India fans (based on the result – good choice of seating position Michael!):

Drummers…

We didn’t need anyone to confirm this for us as we already know that it rocks but thanks to Gabe Barham from US Rock Band Sleeping With Sirens, we can now officially claim that ‘Dubai doesn’t suck’.

Dubai, UAE.

Looks like he and Lauren Arabella were quickly converted into fans of Dubai…with beaches like this how can you resist:

Actresses…

People come to Dubai for many reasons – for actress Elli Avram it was to hang out with some cheetahs. Word of warning Elli, holding your breath will not help if you are being chased by a cheetah, luckily these guys look more likely to cuddle you than chase you though:

We don’t usually party, but when we do it involves tequila…and Barasti. Actress Urvashi Rautela apparently doesn’t normally party, but when she does it is on a yacht…it’s almost the same! If you are looking to party on a yacht then we can’t think of many places better than Dubai so good choice Urvashi:

Hollywood Elite…

Salma Hayek and Matthew McConaughey were here presenting at the Global Teacher Prize Awards 2016 at The Atlantis hotel.

Indian actor Akshay Kumar managed to get his ‘selfie of a lifetime’ with the actress.

And here’s the whole gang using the old school photo capturing method:

Salma also showed that Oscars aren’t essential to visit Dubai, we have plenty enough awards here to go round (but Leo if you want to visit and bring yours with you then our doors are open):

Also if you are a fan then Salma has a recommendation of where to go…

And finally…

The strangest celeb spot story of the week comes from Jebel Ali where ‘Mr Bollywood’ himself SRK was opening a steel pipe mill….yep we are confused as well:
