An Emirati Female Running A Successful Media Outlet Tells How She Started Her Career And How Times Have Changed

A lot has changed in Dubai in a short period.

Architecturally, economically and socially- but for Khadeeja Marzooqi, editor of the digital publication Dubai Post, the most significant change has been seeing more women in local media today.

And she’s right.

With 70% of Emirati women making up all university grads in the UAE and a 95.8% literacy rate- it’s no surprise how much impact, and influence women have taken part of in the continuous, rapid growth of the country.

Women have been involved in key decision-making events before oil was discovered in the UAE

Two years ago, at the UAE’s first Women’s Economic Empowerment Global Summit (WEEGS), Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qassimi even said “Women are an essential part of society, who contribute to the transformation of society.”

This level of empowerment by the government, especially in terms of economic development and support, plays a pivotal role in helping lead this change.
