It never ceases to amaze us the true skill of interior designers, restaurant concept creators and architects in Dubai who seamlessly create a venue that makes you feel like you are somewhere else. Copper Dog is one such place and wonderfully so. Think of a country gastro pub in Scotland, somewhere in the wild, then make it a bit trendy, like a Scots bar in New York, then immerse it into The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on JBR with a terrace overlooking the endless sea, landscaped hotel gardens, the new Dubai Eye and the Palm Jumeirah. Yes, it’s something.

1. As soon as you walk in, you think, ‘Right, this is Scotland’..

It’s the brown and amber colors, the wooden floors, furniture and the Copper bar… the paintings and the whisky barrels, and the sheer number of bottles of Whiskys behind the bar. 

2. Any gastro pub that is ambitious enough to have scallops and steak tartare on its starter menu, you know they are not run of the mill

The real treats here are found on the menu; Scottish staples such as the Scotch Egg and Haggis…

3. A dedicated Whisky chamber affectionately called the “Spey Room” …

Paying homage to the roots and heritage of the original home of Copper Dog, the ‘Spey Room’ makes reference to Speyside, the area in which the original venue sits nestled in The Craigellachie Hotel in Scotland’s Highlands. The room currently houses the finest 60 bottles from their vast selection.

4. And boy do they know their whiskeys…

After our meal on the terrace, we took a quaint wooden table nestled in the corner by the Spey room, resumed our position on the quilted club chair and indulged in single serving of neat whiskys, selected from one of the many varieties on offer. We all had different tastes, and these were catered to with the in-house expert prescribing the perfect brand and measure suited to each of our palettes.  I like a single malt like the Irish Bushmills, and he suggested a Japanese Whisky which was amazing. They serve over 219 varieties aging from 1970 upwards

5. Cask & Smoke – finally a night dedicated to gentlemen…

Every Sunday, patrons can enjoy a 3-whisky flight accompanied by a cigar. Whether you like it neat or infused with soda it’s well worth the AED 199 price tag for uninterrupted pleasure in a laid-back surrounding.

Copper Dog is located at the end of The Walk in JBR at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. Open daily from 12.00noon till 2.00am from Sunday to Thursday with Friday and Saturday boasting an earlier start of 10.00am.  Mains cost approx.
