This will not end well.
A group of third graders at Dunecrest American School challenged team Lovin to a STEAM project and we’re far from optimistic about our prospects…
While you might expect Lovin to demolish the competition, a closer look at the type of education these kids are getting proves the Lovin team is on shaky ground.
Where as kids we learned spellings and times tables, Dunecrest American School, a renowned international school that offers a challenging approach to learning from KG upwards, focuses on well-rounded project based learning dedicated to maximizing the creative and innovative strengths of students, leaving the Lovin team stumped!
Both teams will be provided with a STEAM kit and basic criteria to build a car from recycled materials. The students and Lovin will start with the very same equipment and instructions. Who will win? Share your thoughts.
You might have heard of STEM, a learning system focused on integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, while Dunecrest take the approach one step further with a focus on STEAM, a system that incorporates the Arts to allow kids to develop creativity, imagination, and innovation, along with the other subjects.
Projects are chosen that foster innovation and critical thinking using a hands on approach, where students need to gather supplies, construct models, and test designs… and whether your child is interested in the arts, science, or numbers, they can excel with STEAM.
The problems are related to real world issues, like sustainability, while rooted in subjects taught at school, helping students acquire key skills that coincide with the IB learner profile.
From an early age, students are faced with developing ownership and responsibility while facing time management and decision making challenges. To complete projects, students become effective at teamwork, flexible thinking, creative problem solving and the importance of student collaboration.
