Street food has really enjoyed a renaissance in the past few years, it’s all about food trucks, street food, kiosks – easy to transport and easy to eat light bites, nibbles and hot meals. 

And every nation has its own version of street-side vendors dishing out delicious food. 

Here are 10 amazing street food dishes, that you can get right here in Dubai – and all within Global Village. 

1. Takoyaki: Japan

Takoyoki is a Japanese snack that originated in Osaka, that are a wheat-flour ball of goodness. 

They’re typically served filled with octopus inside, tempura vegetables, pickled ginger and onion and are served with a sauce drizzle.

2. Raclette: Switzerland

Raclette is a type of Swiss cheese that is primed for melting. And traditionally the cheese is warmed up, melted and then scraped onto vegetables, meats and or breads. 

And it’s really, really good. Find this one in front of Global Village’s America pavilion. 

3. Saj: the Levant

One of the UAE’s favourites, saj bread is a delicious flat bread that’s thin and soft. 

It’s cooked on a custom-style griddle and is best enjoyed stuffed with goodies, meats, salads or cheese and honey. 

You can serve all your saj needs at Saj Beirut, at Global Village.

4. Poffertjes: The Netherlands 

Mini-pancakes drizzled with nutella, does it GET any better than this?! 

These sweet treats are light and spongy, and are traditionally enjoyed as a holiday treat at festive markets and summer festivals – so are perfect for enjoying while you’re walking around. 

5. Grana Padano pasta: Italy 

Italy. Pasta. Need we say more? Okay we will, pasta rolled around in a delicious Grana Padano cheese is basically lyf, Grana Padano is favoured for pasta thanks to its hard consistency, and the fact it comes in a delicious giant wheel. 

6. Turkish delight: Turkey 

Originating in the Ottoman Empire, Turkish Delight has become a chewy favourite and comes in plenty of dreamy flavours. 

The traditional style was sweetened with honey and molasses, and is a historic treat with roots going back as far as the 1700s. 

It makes for a delicious snack, or a special gift. 

7. Tacos: Mexico 

Mexico’s best-known street food, tacos vary from region to region in Mexico – with fish tacos in the regions closer to the sea, and meatier ones found more inland. 

Tacos have adapted from their original form – when Mexican wives would bring their husbands meals wrapped in tortillas to the fields. 

Whether a crispy corn shell, or a soft flour one, a fish filling or a beef one, you KNOW they’re delish. 

8. Churros, Spain & Portugal 

Though their origins are relatively unknown, the sweet and crispy churros have definitely enjoyed popularity at fairs in Portugal, Spain, Southern America and now, everywhere – including Dubai. 

 The doughy, fried and crispy and sprinkled with sugar transcends cultures, and these easy-to-eat goodies are best served hot out of the deep-frier. 

9. Baklava: Greece 

Again, enjoyed in many regions, and civilisations, baklava comes in all shapes and sizes, and is layers of pistachios, walnuts, almonds and drizzled with sugar syrup and rose water. 

Baklava is easy to eat with your hands, or with cutlery, and is ALWAYS delicious. 

10. Hot chocolate: Mexico, Europe & basically everywhere

This unbelievable hot chocolate has to be universal. With lashings of chocolate – white and milk, this is guaranteed to warm any soul.
