Famous for his operettas, Franz Lehár has also written sonatas, poems and marches. In honour of his highly-regarded career, there is a street in Vienna in his name and several towns in the Netherlands also have streets named after him.
Prepare to lose yourself in “Vilja Song”, “Da geh’ ich zu Maxim,” (“You’ll Find Me at Maxim’s”) and the “Merry Widow Waltz”. You might recognise the rich melodic score of these songs already.
Everyone is rooting for the widow in this romantic comedy. Watch how her fellow countrymen scheme to arrange her marriage, so she keeps her money within the country, as the audience holds out for love to prevail.
