MAC Cosmetics tried to market off a makeup look for suhoor and people lost their minds.
Apparently, MAC confused suhoor for iftar and has met with mixed reactions by Muslim women from around the globe.
The video showed women getting ‘Ramadan ready for suhoor’ with make-up looks including eye-shadow.
Usually Muslims do tend to dress fancy during Ramadan but, it’s typically done for iftar. However, Muslims in the Gulf are known to go out for suhoor which may (or may not) be what MAC was trying to target.
Take a look at some of these tweets, quite frankly, they’re hilarious!
hi can y’all stop commercializing ramadan do you even know what suhoor is thanks pic.twitter.com/0y10soFvNK

This would’ve been great for an “iftar party” look or an Eid makeup look. It’s great that @MACcosmetics want to diversify their marketing, but come on – at least consult Muslim women before running with this stuff. https://t.co/Abj8fWQrjU

Hey @MACcosmetics did you mean iftar look? ‘Cause suhoor is at 3:15 am.
For most Muslims the “suhoor look” is “yawning and forcing food and water into our mouths with half-closed eyes and waiting for fajr”
You can appeal to the Muslim community better.

There were other women who defended the move by MAC.
All you guys mocking that MAC ad about suhoor looks… in Dubai some actually go out for suhoor. When I was there during Ramadan in 2015 we went out for suhoor. It’s so festive and the people are dressed in their best abayas and of course wearing make up.

U guys are oblivious to a middle eastern Ramadan culture that is clearly different from urs. Suhoor gatherings are a thing and having suhoor at a restaurant is also a thing. I wish everyone would stop getting worked up over this it’s kinda embarrassing lol

Though it’s still unclear what MAC exactly meant, whether it was a mistake, or just a marketing strategy gone wrong. Let’s just hope the controversy dies down soon.
