With just over a month until Christmas, of course the stores are decking themselves out with d\u00e9cor, gifting ideas, wrapping papers, and the like.<\/p>\n
\nIt\u2019s so fabulous, that in an expat community, we can easily get hold of Christmas festive goods, without having to struggle to get your hands on a tree, d\u00e9cor and everything Christmas.<\/p>\n
And we do expect a bit of a surcharge considering we\u2019re not in a Christian country, for these goods.<\/p>\n
BUT \u2013 I\u2019m calling BS on the price of Christmas crackers in this country, they\u2019re officially bonkers.<\/p>\n
Everywhere.<\/p>\n
This weekend, I ventured to:<\/p>\n
- \n
- Ace Hardware<\/li>\n
- IKEA<\/li>\n
- Carrefour<\/li>\n
- Spinneys<\/li>\n
- Park and Shop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
And every.single.place. was charging around AED80 for one six-pack of crackers. AED80!<\/p>\n
That\u2019s US$21, \u20ac19 or \u00a316 for those playing at home.<\/p>\n

<\/figure>\nAnd let\u2019s be honest, Christmas crackers are basically a few bits of cardboard, a cheap toy and a terrible joke \u2013 they\u2019re not worth US$30 for!<\/p>\n
I appreciate that these may have an additional charge for shipping, and they are nice ones, but in my native Australia, they\u2019re rarely more than AED15 for a pack.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s insanity.<\/p>\n
I guess I\u2019ll just be forgoing the crackers this year, besides, I\u2019ve got enough terrible jokes of my own that I can share.<\/p>\n
