It hasn’t been long since the Amazon acquisition of Souq.com completely took over.

In fact, the website takeover of Amazon took place on May 1. Residents woke up to a notification on the Souq.com homepage announcing the takeover and were redirected to Amazon.ae. If you didn’t know, Amazon acquired Souq two years back at a whopping US$580 million.

So the new website has been up-and-running for a continuous 26 days, but UAE residents have a mixed bag of opinions on the new website, service and other shenanigans.

The customer service is very pathetic. I am sure I won’t be continuing further with AmazonAE

— Karan L (@Karan_DX99) May 26, 2019

@AmazonAE #souq Pls go back to Souq interface it was 100 times better than Amazon interface #Mydubai #dubai #dubailife @SouqUAE

— Intruder121 (@danielnargunam) May 20, 2019

As a simple example, a box of multigrain crackers that just a couple of months back cost me 10 AED to order on Souq is now priced at AED 26.9! For the same brand and same size. Costs AED 8.4 on Carrefour online.

— Jerusha Sequeira (@Jerusha_Seq) May 20, 2019

Terrible search functionality, inflated prices, and feels half baked overall. Shopped at Noon for the first time because of this.

The feedback has been pretty divided so far
