Many of Dubai’s residential communities have\u00a0community centres with great restaurants.\u00a0There are close to 70,000 people living within a three mile radius of Dubai Sports City. So when a new retail promenade<\/a>\u00a0opens\u00a0the locals are all very interested.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Canal Residence are three low rise properties located between Victory Heights (of The Els Golf Club fame) and ICC sports academy (of Fit Republik) fame. And while there still isn’t actual water in the canal, it’s retail section is fully operational.\u00a0So, what’s worth\u00a0checking out…<\/p>\n

1. Wooden Cellar<\/h3>\n

This authentic Greek place doubles as a mini organic store with fresh fruit and veg. Its menu is entirely Greek, so expect lots of Greek salad, lasagne and almost everything has feta cheese.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

2. The Kebab Shop<\/h3>\n

There are a couple of these around Dubai, one in Media City, the\u00a0London phone box outside this one\u00a0gives a hint to the British\u00a0flavour of kebabs on offer here. As well as lamb or chicken kebabs, they do decent mixed grills and the Afghan chickens are great, and the staff are very helpful should you want to customise your kebab.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

3. Pizzeria Pulcinella<\/h3>\n

Some say this is a hidden gem in the quest for the best pizza in Dubai. they have one other in, this one also have a wooden pizza and plenty of options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

4. Walima Lebanese Restaurant<\/h3>\n

To continue the variety of cuisines on offer on this strip, there is a Lebanese restaurant. The mixed grill is top quality as are the cold mezza\u00a0especially the moutabal.\u00a0Also, we hear that they will have shisha on offer in a month or so,\u00a0as soon as the licence is approved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

5. Wanna Banana<\/h3>\n

After your meal, there is worse you can do than\u00a0have this healthy frozen banana treat. It’s like ice-cream, yet it has no dairy or no added sugar.\u00a0The frozen banana comes\u00a0in a variety of flavours or\u00a0sizes, you can choose between strawberry,\u00a0blueberry, cocao, cinnamon, dates or plain. This is their second store in Dubai, you may\u00a0recognise Wanna Banana from their stall on Kite Beach.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

There is a London Fish and Chips soon to open, and not only that, you can do your grocery shopping at Almaya <\/em>(they even have a pork section). There is\u00a0Sugar Beauty lounge<\/em> for ladies, and Super Trim<\/em>\u00a0male hairdressers, a real estate company and a pharmacy. So you could mistake it for a mini high street!
