They all now face enforcement action. The CAA say the investigation has been ongoing\u00a0for the past few months and that\u00a0200,000 passengers could be affected. If found guilty, the airlines could face unlimited fines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Etihad are furious and said this&#8230;<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"content__quote\">\n<p>&#8220;We find the CAA\u2019s approach wholly \u2018unprofessional and unacceptable\u2019 to publicly blame Etihad Airways for infringements to passengers\u2019 rights which we unreservedly deny.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><cite>Etihad statement<\/cite>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"c-adunit c-adunit--mpu_mid\">\n<div id=\"mpu_mid\" class=\"c-adunit__container\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Emirates went further saying the CAA were unprofessional<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"content__quote\">\n<p>&#8220;The way in which the CAA has communicated this issue is both misleading and unprofessional. As the CAA is well aware, the recent EU guidelines on EC 261 are not intended to amend the law. The issue of EC 261\u2019s application to our flights from the UK involving a stopover in Dubai is currently pending before the Court of Appeal. We will rigorously defend our position, and challenge the blanket application of EC 261 to every situation, without consideration of context or the safety of our passengers. Emirates, like any responsible airline, puts the safety of our passengers first and to be penalised for this is absurd.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><cite>Emirates statement<\/cite>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>The main issue is revolving around connecting flights<\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"content__quote\">\n<p>\u201cAny disruption to a flight is frustrating for passengers, but delays that cause people to miss connecting flights have a particularly damaging effect on people&#8217;s travel plans.
