A renowned Emirati composer has been detained at JFK\u00a0Airport in New York for four hours without reason.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mohammed Fairouz, a composer residing in New York, reportedly was detained at the airport without explanation on April 24.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Emirati national was returning to his home in New York after working in Britain on an orchestra recording.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fairouz told AFP\u00a0he believes he was detained due to his Muslim name.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fairouz contributes to The Independent, where he discussed the incident<\/a>, and stated “I\u00a0usually travel between our global cities with ease.”\u00a0<\/p>\nFairouz has composed works that have been performed at Carnegie Hall, and recently at Dubai Opera’s BBC Proms.<\/h3>\n
