Summer calls for living your best wanderlust life, which means beach escapes… hill stations, going back to visit the fam and all that jazz.

But with the highs come the lows: the lows being standing in long immigration queues, navigating around brand new territories, and ofc there’s always that luggage drama.

Hence, if you’re flying with Emirates, here is how you can follow up for delayed, damaged or misplaced luggage:

If your baggage is damaged, delayed, lost or destroyed, you must write and complain to Emirates as soon as possible. In the case of damage to checked baggage, the passenger must write and complain within 7 days.

In the case of a delay to checked baggage, the passenger must write and complain within 21 days. To calculate compliance with these requirements, time will run from the date on which the baggage was placed at the passenger’s disposal. More info here.

You’ll receive a reference number (PIR) after you’ve filed your claim, which you can then enter on the Emirates Airlines website to access deets & updates about your delayed or damaged baggage.

ALL customers who have travelled to and from the US who have reported a missing piece of baggage, are entitled to compensation

Emirates offers Interim Relief (IR) compensation to all customers who have travelled to and from the US who have reported a missing piece of baggage. IR is also offered to passengers who have travelled on other routes when no baggage is received (excluding residents).

This can be used to purchase essential items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and sleepwear. To claim IR compensation, please visit your nearest Emirates office with your passport and a receipt of your purchased ticket.

Emirates can’t ALWAYS deliver your delayed baggage to you

Once they’ve found your baggage and it’s been cleared by customs, they’ll aim to return your items within 4 hours (distance permitting).

However, in some countries, local laws won’t permit luggage delivery, and you’ll need to collect it from the airport. If this is the case for your luggage, they’ll let you know when you make your claim.

You can track your luggage by using the baggage tracker in the Emirates App

If your bag is delayed, the tracker will give you a reference number (called a PIR) and let you know what we’re doing to return your bags to you. If you don’t have the app, you can use the delayed or damaged baggage tracker on the Emirates website.

If your baggage was lost on a non‑Emirates flight, you’ll have to contact the other airline directly for deets

The same applies even if you were travelling on an Emirates ticket but were rerouted on a flight with another airline.

Safe travels!
