{"id":11525,"date":"2018-10-13T10:20:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-13T10:20:38","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2018-10-13T10:20:38","modified_gmt":"2018-10-13T10:20:38","slug":"deportation-made-optional-under-newly-amended-uae-cybercrimes-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lovin.co\/dubai\/en\/news\/deportation-made-optional-under-newly-amended-uae-cybercrimes-law\/","title":{"rendered":"MAJOR: Cybercrime Related Cases Will No Longer Involve Mandatory Deportation In The UAE"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"c-adunit c-adunit--mpu\">\n<div id=\"mpu\" class=\"c-adunit__container\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following the new amendments that have been made to the UAE Cybercrimes Law, people charged with cybercrime related cases will no longer be penalised with deportation.<\/p>\n<p>The ambit of cybercrimes primarily include threats and abuse online, and people flouting the rules may not necessarily face imprisonment and deportation under the amended law, as per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khaleejtimes.com\/nation\/dubai\/deportation-made-optional\/-in-uae-cybercrime-law\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3> The new changes will greatly benefit people with no prior criminal record<\/h3>\n<p>In the lieu of the amendment, based on the Emiri Decree Number 2\/2018, issued by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, current President of the UAE, the Emir of Abu Dhabi and the Supreme Commander of the Union Defence Force, the Dubai Court of Appeals recently overturned the deportation of a Canadian national.<\/p>\n<p>However, all the defaulters of cyber crimes will be placed under severe electronic probation and monitoring, and be prevented from using online platforms &#8220;during a period not exceeding the penalty prescribed in the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to one Emirati lawyer, Awatif Mohammed, these changes exclude online sexual crimes and felonies that are referred to the criminal court such as issuing sex-related threats, promoting prostitution, hate threats and running human trafficking website.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Deportation is still obligatory for these crimes and punishments of such acts can even reach death penalty,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-adunit c-adunit--mpu_mid\">\n<div id=\"mpu_mid\" class=\"c-adunit__container\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Following the new amendments that have been made to the UAE Cybercrimes Law, people charged with cybercrime related cases will no longer be penalised with deportation.
