APS Peshawar Attack: A Scar That Will Never Fade

The Black day, December 16 marks the 7th Anniversary of the Army Public School APS Peshawar attack by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in 2014, in which 147 innocent people including 137 children were martyred. In accordance, The Pakistan Army has arranged a ceremony at the APS Peshawar today on the 7th anniversary of the tragedy at the school premises to pay homage to martyrs.

A day we will never forget…

Six terrorists of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan entered the premises of the Army Public School in Peshawar on the morning of December 16, 2014, and opened fire on teachers and students, The attackers were gunned down in Pak Army operation. December 16 is marked the ‘Darkest Day in the history of Pakistan.

Messages of consolation by top government officials

In a heartwrenching tweet the federal defense minister, Pervez Khattak, said:

“There is zero tolerance for violence and those using it as a tool,” said Prime minister Imran Khan as he remembered the innocent and brave little martyrs of APS.

However, many saw the comments of government officials as extremely hypocritical and political. This comes after Pakistan’s recent support of the Taliban government in Afghanistan of which the terrorist organization TLP- the perpetrators of the APS Peshawar attack- is a member.

Some went as far as fixing Imran Khan’s tweet:

 

We still have not learned from that painful day

For some time it seemed like the government and people of Pakistan had woken up to the horrors of terrorism and the crackdown on terrorists started through the military operation: Zarb-e-Azb. However, the successes of that operation soon faded away and it is tragic to see how the now incumbent government is supportive of the same terrorists who martyred the nation’s innocent children. APS Peshawar attack or the lynching of the Srilankan national, we will never learn…
