In a major twist for Islamabad’s commercial scene, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has shut down two popular restaurants in the city’s Blue Area and Super Market, accusing them of issuing fake receipts to dodge taxes.

The FBR’s newly implemented Point of Sale (POS) tracking system revealed discrepancies in the transactions at these establishments, ultimately confirming what they suspected, counterfeit invoices had been issued to conceal unreported sales.
This bold action isn’t just aimed at businesses; FBR is calling on the public to join the fight against tax evasion through the recently launched POS Prize Scheme.
Rolled out on October 25, the initiative lets consumers report suspicious or fake receipts through the Tax Asaan App, and verified reports could earn cash rewards!
FBR hopes this incentive will foster a culture of tax responsibility, where consumers play an active role in keeping businesses honest. By getting citizens involved, FBR is tackling tax evasion on all fronts, while ensuring that tax dues make it into the national treasury.
While the scheme is currently limited to Islamabad, the FBR has plans for a nationwide rollout next month, with the program set to expand across all Tier-1 retailers.
For consumers, this means that any dining experience or shopping trip could be an opportunity to score cash rewards just by keeping an eye on their receipts.
As FBR tightens its grip on tax evasion, Pakistan’s business landscape may see a significant shift, with the agency showing they’re serious about stopping fraudulent practices.
