Smog Levels Hit Dangerous Heights In Twin Cities!

Rohama Batool

The twin cities are smothered in a thick blanket of smog, and it’s only getting worse!

Rawalpindi’s AQI hit a jaw-dropping 246, while Islamabad isn’t far behind at 230…putting both in the dangerous category

And if you’re thinking anti-smog measures are on top of it, think again!

And who is causing all this mess??? Well it’s no secret…smoke-belching vehicles top the list, making up a massive 83.15% of the pollution. And if you think factories, kilns, and crop burning aren’t pulling their weight, think again! They’re the next biggest culprits, despite claims that “measures” are in place.

On top of that, dust is settling on every surface, from tree leaves to parked cars, making clean air a distant memory for residents.

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) is hitting the streets with fines and vehicle impoundments.

In one week, they seized 41 smoke-emitting vehicles and slapped Rs250,000 in fines

Meanwhile, crop residue burners were fined Rs200,000, and all stone crushers in Taxila have been shut down. Kilns? Temporarily closed through January. But while the efforts are noted, the smog isn’t budging!

This thick, relentless smog is causing everything from dry coughs and eye irritation to fevers – sound familiar?

That’s because people all over the twin cities are feeling the toll on their health…

With an emergency already declared, the government’s new 12-point anti-smog guideline isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a necessity! Mask up, wash up, and stay indoors, because it’s a smog fight out there.

But there may be a ray of hope, though.

The Environmental Protection Department is predicting rain next week, which could clear the air – literally

But until those clouds roll in, protect yourself. If you’re out and about, follow the guidelines and keep yourself covered. Here’s hoping next week’s rain will wash away the smog and bring some fresh air back to the twin cities!
