Global icon Kumail Nanjiani is returning to his roots in Pakistani-American storytelling. The Oscar-nominated actor and comedian has officially joined the cast of Hulu’s breakout hit Deli Boys for its highly anticipated second season, which is set to premiere on May 28, 2026.
According to various industry reports, Kumail Nanjiani will take on a recurring role that adds a new layer of legal and comedic tension to the show’s gritty Philadelphia setting. His involvement marks another major milestone for the series, which has been widely celebrated in Pakistan and the diaspora for its authentic, unapologetic take on South Asian identity.
In Season 2, Kumail Nanjiani portrays Danyal, a high-powered defense attorney. His character is reportedly brought into the fold by Max Sugar (played by fellow newcomer Fred Armisen), a casino mogul and master money launderer who begins working with the Dar brothers to clean their “dirty cash.”
As the Dar brothers—Mir and Raj—struggle to keep their late father’s criminal enterprise afloat, Nanjiani’s character will likely serve as the bridge between their street-level operations and the high-stakes legal world of Philadelphia.

For fans in Pakistan, Kumail Nanjiani’s addition to Deli Boys is a full-circle moment. Having consistently advocated for diverse roles that move beyond “brown guy” stereotypes, his presence in a show created by Abdullah Saeed—which already features Saagar Shaikh and Asif Ali—solidifies Deli Boys as a premier platform for Pakistani talent in Hollywood.
The upcoming 10-episode season also features returning guest star Tan France as the suave mobster Zubair, and introduces Andrew Rannells as a District Attorney determined to shut the Dars down.

The first season of Deli Boys, which famously included a cameo by Pakistani designer HSY, is currently streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Season 2 promises to be “darker and funnier,” with the official release scheduled for the end of May.
