Multan Sultans’ New-Look Squad Powers Past Islamabad United In PSL 11 Opener

PSL

Multan Sultans have officially kicked off their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 campaign with a massive result, chasing down a 172-run target against Islamabad United. Playing in front of a packed crowd at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, the revamped Multan side proved they are the team to watch this year.

Islamabad United set a target of 171 for eight in their 20 overs. While the United lineup showed flashes of brilliance—specifically Mark Chapman, who smashed 40 off just 21 balls—the Multan bowlers kept the pressure high throughout. Devon Conway and Faheem Ashraf both chipped in with 26 runs, but the middle order struggled to truly break free.

Momin Qamar Takes Control

The star of the show with the ball was Momin Qamar. His three-wicket haul dismantled key parts of the United batting order and earned him the Player of the Match award. Mohammad Wasim also played a massive role, picking up two wickets to help restrict the Islamabad side to a manageable total.

The Chase: Philippe and Turner Deliver

Multan’s response was steady and aggressive. Josh Philippe anchored the innings with a brilliant 55 from 35 balls, putting the Sultans in the driver’s seat early on.

When the game tightened up, Ashton Turner stepped up with an unbeaten 43, while Arafat Minhas added a quick 25 to close the gap. Despite Shadab Khan and Salman Irshad picking up two wickets each for United, Multan reached 175 for five with over an over to spare.

With this win, the “new-look” Sultans have immediately signaled their intent for the trophy. The balance of the squad, combined with standout individual performances, suggests that Multan is heading into the rest of the tournament with serious momentum.
