The fog that has enveloped beautiful Islamabad brings with it a certain kind of gloom. Accompanied with the bone-chilling cold that has everyone layering up, it adds an air of mystery to the mundane lives of residents. It gives a feeling of waking up in the clouds. It felt as if we’re all Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk and are stuck in the castle indefinitely.
As dreamy as it may look, the fog tends to disrupt traffic and flight schedules and this was no different. The weather tends to have a dramatic effect on the general mood od the people and this gloomy weather brought with it despondency. The complete absence of the sun in the morning and the darkness infused with fog at night was reminiscent of the set of Twilight.
Craving the sun and a sense of normality, people are seen huddled around bonfires and heaters, coffee mugs in hand watching the fog from the windows. Misty windows at that, barely letting on much.
Surprisingly, the fog made its way on Monday night and stayed till 10:30 am on Tuesday. Visibility dropped to zero to 10 meters in patches. The winters bring on their own host of problems including shortage of gas. This sudden change in weather resulted in drop in pressure of gas. Despite the cold, the temperature was only 5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday with rain expected the following day.
