Dubai International Airport was a setting for an extremely emotional moment yesterday when a son was reunited with his parents after six years.
A Pakistani driver living here and working with a government body, who had not seen his parents in six years, had a tearful reunion with them- all thanks to the staff at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, GDRFA decided to surprise the man by allowing the parents to meet their son as they return from Jeddah for a four-hour layover in Dubai en route to Karachi, Pakistan. They were coming from Saudi Arabia where they had gone to perform Umrah.
People on a layover in Dubai are not allowed to meet with anyone from outside the airport. However, GDRFA decided to make an exception for the son.

Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA said, “since giving is the key of happiness, we wanted to add happiness to the hearts of this family. And we know by taking part of it, happiness will also fill us.”
