Who even knew? These chips were introduced to the Masjid Al Nabawi in Medina by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the two holy mosques. Now, these carpets aren’t your ordinary living-room decor that have a strict no-shoes rule, but are actually exclusively included in the Kingdom’s offical luxury carpet range. There are prayer mats and duplicates inspired by designs displayed on these famous carpets.

The micro-chips are linked to an electronic system that provides information on the carpets manufacture, location, washing schedule, and counting

The chips work with RFID (radio frequency identification), which provides all this information an electronic portal. It can also identify numbers of the carpets placed within the mosque and provide barcodes that can be digitally printed. Why the protocol you may ask? Well, these carpets are used by thousands of worshippers daily and MUST be sanitized and cleaned accordingly. Saudi has always progressed in tecnological innovation, which  is exactly why these chips were invented!
