Jeddah’s Historic Al Balad Has Been Embracing an Artistic ‘Take Over’

In the heart of historic Jeddah’s Al-Balad, Argentine digital artist Andres Reisinger is breaking boundaries between the digital and physical realms!

As part of his viral “Take Over” series, he’s reimagining global locations by draping them in dreamy shades of pink. Reisinger’s recent physical installation stands tall at 17 meters, becoming a focal point in the “Matters through Matter” exhibition at Balad Al-Fann – and truly is a sight to see!

Where the resilience and adaptability to Jeddah’s ancestors is celebrated

Positioned in a textile neighborhood, the building draped in pink takes on a unique context, blending the hard and soft surfaces to create a narrative that transforms the space. The installation pays homage to the resilience and adaptability of cultures in Al-Balad, showcasing a new energy coursing through both the universe and the historic district.

Reisinger’s AI-generated art, which was initially a subject of some dispute, comes alive in one of Saudi Arabia’s crown jewels. The immersive pink cloth poetically flutters over the Bedouin Market’s historical structure, adding a romantic edge to the ancient trading port. The color serves as a metaphor for positivity and inspiration, encouraging people to view the world with rose-colored glasses and embrace the unexpected!

A gorgeous blend of the physical and digital

In a world where the physical and digital coexist, Reisinger’s use of social media as a platform challenges traditional art boundaries. By integrating human participation into his work, he invites the public to experience the unexpected, which allows those who view his art to have an open mind and a belief that every day can bring something different.

As part of Balad Al-Fann’s “Past-Forward” theme, the artist’s installation has created an interesting blend of past heritage and future possibilities to Jeddah’s cultural hub, which is continuing until March 9 – and we’re totally here for it!
