The ICRI, which includes 45 countries responsible for 75% of the world’s coral reefs, focuses on international cooperation for the preservation of these critical ecosystems. The meeting will look at ways to support scientists and policymakers through training and knowledge exchange to improve global conservation efforts.
One of the goals of the meeting is to raise awareness of the critical role coral reefs play in biodiversity and the blue economy. Discussions will center around finding a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability, particularly in areas like tourism and coastal activities. Also, the meeting aims to address major threats to coral reefs, including climate change, pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices.
The event reflects broader global efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development through collaboration and research in marine conservation. It aims to facilitate the sharing of effective strategies and best practices among participating nations. By fostering new partnerships and strengthening existing ones, the meeting seeks to make progress in coral reef protection.
