Nawaf Al-Mugairen has officially resigned from his Presidency with the Al-Ittihad football club based in Jeddah.

On his personal Twitter, Al Mugairen announced his request for resignation following the team’s recent negative results lately. General Sports Authority’s Chairman Turki al-Shaikh announced that Mr. Louay Nazer has been assigned to the board of directors of Al Ittihad Club and Hamad al-Muhandi as vice-president.

Supporters of Al-Ittihad seem to be in agreement with the decision, with some comments ranging from ‘meh’ to others full-on agreeing with the news.

Nawaf tweeted saying, “To my special circumstances … I left my request to my brother Turki Al-Sheikh to resign from the presidency in May For the club’s leadership I have done what I can for this big device and its valuable public, and I will remain with our union as a loving, loving and supportive in the next step.”

The announcement was made on Sunday right after the Al Ahli beat Ittihad 3-1

The announcement for Nawaf’s resignation followed after the Ittihad team lost 1-3 vs Al Ahli at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah last night.

In a response to the resignation, Chairman of the General Sports Authority Turki al-Shaikh bid adieu to Al-Mugairen from the club, saying “His resignation has been accepted and his efforts have been appreciated during the past phase. Mr. Louay Nazer was also assigned to the board of directors of Al Ittihad Club and brother Hamad al-Muhandi as vice president. My wishes to them and to the Union, good luck.”

Saudis aren’t at all hating on his resignation

“Best decision”

While others found it as more of an escape than a resignation

Oh, Twitter.
