History is being redefined yet again as Saudi announced that 30 female cyclists will take part in the Kingdom’s first bicycle race. The competition will be a 10-kilometre distance in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, reports Gulf News. The “Be Active” initiative is part of Saudi’s tribute to World Health Day 2018.

The awarding ceremony will take place at King Abdullah Sports City

The General Sports Authority will award winners with cups and medals at the King Abdullah Sports City, more commonly known as Al Jawhara, a multi-stadium and second largest in the Kingdom. Saudi daily Okaz even reported that one of the participants asked to allocate special lanes for cyclists, so that women can ride their bicycles every day.

Yet another milestone to help empower Saudi women

This is just another example of the drive leading up to Crown Prince MBS’ Vision 2030, to ease social controls, empower women in all aspects, like attending sporting events and to drive.
