Hold on to your hats, folks! Saudi Arabia is about to launch the mother of all water projects. In a move that will make even the Nile river look small, the kingdom is planning to dig a “river” that spans a whopping 12,000 kilometres. Yes, you heard that right: 12,000 kilometres! To put that in perspective, it’s like laying a pipe from New York to Beijing, with some spare change to boot.<\/p>\n

Just to set things clear, it will not be a Nile-like open-flowing river; the water here will be flowing through anti-corrosion pipes.<\/h2>\n

The video of this project was posted by Ahmad Al Shugairi, a prominent Saudi reporter, as part of his TV show ‘Seen’. He mentions on his show that the pipes running beneath Saudi cities already total a staggering 126,000 kilometres. If they were laid end-to-end, they could circle the globe three times and produce a mind-boggling 9.4 million cubic metres of water every day.<\/p>\n

So get ready to witness the largest desalinated water transportation system in the world. Add this to the list of gigaprojects that are currently underway in Saudi Arabia.<\/h2>\n
