Karachi finally got its first winter rain on December 31, 2025, giving the city a refreshing change in weather. The showers brought cooler breezes and a sharp dip in temperatures, prompting Karachiites to reach for sweaters, jackets, and warm chai.
The rain touched many areas, including PIDC, Sultanabad, Ziauddin Ahmed Road, Civil Lines, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi, Saddar, the Old City, Defence, II Chundrigar Road, Tariq Road, Soldier Bazaar, and Jamshed Road. The Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted light rain due to a westerly wave system moving in from December 30. Humidity levels rose to 84%, keeping the skies cloudy and overcast throughout the day.
After the rainfall, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 16°C, while daytime highs hovered around 26°C. Residents noticed the drop, especially after weeks of mild weather. The PMD forecasts no major rainfall in the coming days, although light drizzles might appear on January 1. It’s the perfect time for a cozy winter outfit and a hot cup of tea.
This westerly wave isn’t just affecting Karachi. According to the Met Office, upper and central Pakistan will experience the system from December 31 through January 2, 2026. Balochistan can expect rain, strong winds, and even hilltop snow. In Karachi, the skies will remain partly cloudy, keeping the city cool and fresh for a few more days. Whether you’re navigating puddles or simply enjoying the change in weather, the first winter rain of 2025 has brought a welcome chill to Karachi. Keep your umbrellas handy, layer up, and savor the fresh air while it lasts.
