Millions have been displaced since the floods wreaked havoc across Pakistan. Many have called out for donations, however, most are surprised at the silence from the neighbouring, Bollywood celebrities – who have an influence and following in Pakistan. Unlike Bollywood, global supermodel Bella Hadid has raised her voice for Pakistan. Taking to her social media, she urged her followers to donate to the affectees of the flood in Pakistan and provide them as much help as they can.

In an extensive post on Instagram, Bella Hadid wrote: “More than 1000 people — a third of them children — have died during severe flooding across Pakistan. From June through August, 2022, torrential monsoon rains washed away entire villages and infrastructure across Pakistan’s four provinces, affecting at least 33 million people. 4 million acres of crops have been destroyed and 800,000 livestock have died. Not only is this traumatizing for the people of Pakistan but it will also ,long-term, increase food insecurity across the country and will have a severe impact on the economy.”

Furthermore, Bella Hadid also shared how people can donate and how their donations will help the people on ground. She explained: “$2.50 can provide micronutrient sachets for a pregnant mother and young child. $12 can provide a hygiene kits with soap, sanitizer, detergent, buckets, menstrual supplies, etc – enough for 3 months for a family. $55 can provide a carton of 55 ready-to-use-therapeutic food sachets that can treat a child suffering from severe acute malnutrition for 6-8 weeks.”

Flood relief efforts in Karachi are currently underway as one-third of Pakistan is submerged underwater, leaving millions homeless. It has been over a week since the disaster first hit and authorities have still been unable to get rid of the water that has taken over what used to be houses and agricultural land. Over a 1000 people have lost their lives as a result of the flood caused by the abnormal monsoon spells and melting glaciers this year due to climate change.
