Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is moving forward with a massive Rs21.53 billion package designed to give Karachi’s infrastructure a significant and much-needed transformation. A substantial portion of this funding, totaling Rs13 billion, is specifically earmarked for sprucing up the roads under the Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs). This initiative promises to provide smoother rides and more efficient commutes for the city’s residents, marking a major step toward urban modernization.

Karachi Receives a Comprehensive Urban Renewal Boost

Announced in January 2026, the Rs21.53 billion initiative is more than a conventional road project; it signals a comprehensive urban renewal drive for the metropolis. Beyond the major allocation for TMC road infrastructure, the plan sets aside Rs8.53 billion for road reconstruction and resurfacing led by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. It also includes Rs1 billion for urgent water and sewerage repairs by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, along with another Rs1 billion for constructing storm drain retention walls. To improve public safety and nighttime visibility, an additional Rs1 billion has been earmarked for installing and upgrading streetlights across Karachi, the provincial capital.

Major Makeover Targeted for Key Residential and Industrial Hubs

Road improvements are set to roll out across 24 TMCs in Karachi, with internal rehabilitation schemes focused on localized needs. While many projects involve patchwork repairs to fix immediate damage, selected roads in high-traffic areas like Gulberg, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sohrab Goth, Orangi, Manghopir, Saddar, and Landhi are scheduled for complete end-to-end overhauls. According to current assessments, the Keamari District receives the highest tentative cost allocation at Rs2.32 billion, followed closely by the West District and East District, ensuring that the most neglected areas receive prioritized attention.

Focus on Quality Control and Timely Execution

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is emphasizing the importance of transparency and high-quality results throughout the execution phase. He has directed the Finance Department to release the funds immediately to ensure that work on damaged roads, sewerage systems, and streetlights begins without delay. The CM is also calling for coordinated execution between various departments to avoid repeated digging and unnecessary public inconvenience.

By prioritizing public amenities and citizen safety, the Sindh government aims to significantly ease traffic congestion and supercharge economic activity. This proactive approach highlights the administration’s commitment to making Karachi a more livable and prosperous city for all its inhabitants.
