Pakistan Rains Over India’s Asia Cup Parade

Cricketing rivals of Pakistan and India clashed at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 4, Sunday in a nail-biting match. While India, led by Rohit Sharma decided to bat first, Pakistan leading on the front with Babar Azam, was able to chase the score and win by 5 wickets. Not only that, but Pakistan was able to break India’s winning streak in this year’s Asia Cup as the neighbouring country’s cricket team had been winning all matches in the tournament so far. Needless to say, people of Pakistan celebrated the victory in full zeal and fervour.

Pakistan’s win not only rained on India’s parade in the Asia Cup but also served as a perfect rebuttal to the defeat the team faced last week. On August 28, India and Pakistan had come face-to-face on the pitch wherein the former won by 5 wickets. This was after last year’s exciting ICC World Cup T20 match where India lost by 10 wickets.

While Pakistan’s win was celebrated by those in Dubai, people in Karachi too took it to the streets to join in on the fun. Restaurants and chai dhabbas across the metropolitan had set up huge screens for the match screening and owing to the Sunday madness, residents flocked to enjoy a taste of delicious food, great company and some over-the-top entertainment by Pakistani players. Many displayed fireworks across the city to mark Pakistan’s victory against India. Others got on their vehicles with their Pakistani flags and waved them as they buzzed through across Shahra-e-Faisal, blasting patriotic numbers on their music systems.

On the cricketing front, Pakistan is currently in the Super 4 round wherein it has to win 2 out the 3 matches each team is required to play. At the moment, Pakistan has won the first match of the Super 4 round, defeating India on September 4. It will next play Afghanistan on Tuesday, September 6 and Sri Lanka on Friday, September 9, which will decide if Pakistan qualifies for the final match of the tournament on Sunday, September 11.
