Sarfaraz Ahmed Bids Farewell to International Cricket After Storied Career

Sarfaraz Ahmed

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed officially announced his retirement from international cricket, concluding a remarkable journey that spanned nearly two decades. The Karachi-born wicketkeeper-batter, who famously led Pakistan to global glory, shared the news via a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) statement on Sunday. Sarfaraz expressed deep gratitude to his family, teammates, and the fans who supported him from his early days in the U19 circuit to the pinnacle of the senior international stage.

A Legacy Defined by Global Silverware

Sarfaraz Ahmed holds a unique place in cricket history as the only Pakistani captain to secure ICC titles at both the junior and senior levels. His leadership journey began with a victory in the 2006 U19 World Cup, but his crowning achievement came in 2017 when he led the national side to a historic ICC Champions Trophy win, defeating India by 180 runs in the final.

Under his captaincy, Pakistan also dominated the T20I format, achieving a world-record streak of 11 consecutive series victories and reaching the No. 1 spot in the global rankings. Beyond the trophies, Sarfaraz was credited with nurturing a generation of modern-day stars, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan, all of whom made their debuts or rose to prominence during his tenure.
