The eighth edition of the much-awaited Pakistan Super League (PSL)<\/a> kicked off on Monday at the Multan Cricket Stadium with a glittering and star-studded opening ceremony.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, which began with a half-hour delay, saw singer Aaima Baig \u2014 clad in an ethereal white gown \u2014 first performing the national anthem.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) President and CEO Muhammad Aurangzeb congratulated the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for organizing the tournament for the eighth time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a historic first in terms of having the inaugurating match in Multan this evening,\u201d he said. \u201cHBL PSL has moved from strength to strength. All the stakeholders have put in a concerted effort to make this a success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Najam Sethi \u2014 who is heading a panel governing the cricketing board\u2019s affairs till a chairman is elected \u2014 showed off the massive replica of this year\u2019s trophy adorning the stage.<\/p>\n

Sahir Ali Bagga and Baig then took to the stage for their performance, getting the crowd roaring.<\/p>\n

The performance was followed by Asim Azhar, Faris Shafi and Shae Gill performing this year\u2019s official anthem \u2018Sab Sitarey Humaray\u2019.<\/p>\n

The ceremony concluded with a large fireworks display<\/a>.<\/p>\n
