Avatar

This unique supper club initiative brings together Sudan’s rich culinary history, culture, and stories – Founded by Marwa Al Kamil, Tokul isn’t just a place to eat, it invites diners on a journey that reflects the founder’s passion for Sudanese food and heritage.

A culinary exploration of Sudan’s untold stories, flavors, and traditions, this experience has been reimagined for both Sudanese and non-Sudanese individuals alike!

Going above and beyond

Tokul goes beyond simply serving Sudanese food. Each dish offers a window into the diverse landscapes, histories, and communities of Sudan. Marwa’s latest menu celebrates the vibrant Port Sudan cuisine, influenced by African, Arabian, and Mediterranean traditions. Her dishes are crafted from the freshest ingredients, infused with tamarind, citrus, and chili, and are inspired by the coastal communities of Port Sudan and Suakin.

Each plate tells a story, offering a taste of the region’s maritime heritage and the unique flavors of Sudan’s Red Sea coast.

A full-on experience

Tokul’s supper club isn’t just about food; it’s about gathering people together, sharing stories, and honoring Sudanese tradition. The experience is intimate, allowing guests to connect with one another and immerse themselves fully in Sudan’s culture!

Some traditions make this experience truly unique. As guests arrive, incense fills the air, a Sudanese custom that creates a warm welcome. The supper club is also alcohol-free, and the menu can be adapted for vegan preferences, ensuring that each guest feels comfortable and included.

Bringing Sudanese Cuisine to the World

As one of the few Sudanese supper clubs of its kind, Tokul is carving out a space for Sudanese cuisine – Marwa hopes that by sharing her passion, more people will come to recognize and appreciate Sudanese food as a distinct and valuable part of the world’s culinary landscape.

Through events, collaborations, and storytelling, Tokul is building awareness and appreciation for Sudanese flavors, positioning Sudan as a vibrant contributor to global cuisine and creating a new, exciting path for Sudanese culinary traditions to flourish beyond borders!

Every Tokul gathering combines culinary art with story telling – Guests don’t just taste Sudan’s flavours, but they hear the stories of how each dish came to be!

@tokulsuppperclub Gold ✨ In ancient Sudanese culture, gold symbolizes wealth, power, and divine connection. It was not just a valuable commodity but held cultural and spiritual significance. Gold adorned the elite and was used in religious artifacts and regalia, reflecting its importance in both daily life and the afterlife. It also played a crucial role in trade and interactions with neighboring civilizations, highlighting its economic and political significance. So with that, let me introduce you to #Tokul’s newest menu “Nubia:Tracing Gold” as we get to re-discover what is current day Sudan, Nubia, in a more culinary sense, picking up gold traces throughout history prior the recent dark ages…prior colonial times. Did I mention Nubia or Neb/Nub/Nobiin translates to gold in Meroitic language, OUR mother tongue? Experience a taste of old techniques and Nubian heritage and mythology like never before.
