Years of legacy destroyed

The Faculty of Pharmacy, a cornerstone of Sudan’s academic community, has suffered extensive damage as the ongoing conflict in Khartoum intensifies. Once a symbol of educational excellence, the building now stands largely burnt out and unrecognizable, with images showing broken windows, charred walls, and debris scattered across the campus.

Sources indicate that the destruction is the result of both airstrikes and ground battles, with drone warfare playing a major role in the devastation.

These damages are not only a blow to the university but also to Sudan’s future healthcare system, as the institution has been central in training generations of pharmacists and medical professionals.

Heartbreak and hope

The resurfaced videos has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Many expressed their shock and heartbreak over the damage to the university, with several local residents and former students sharing emotional responses on social media.

Others, however, have shown resilience and hope.

The damage to the University of Khartoum’s Faculty of Pharmacy is part of a wider crisis that has been unfolding across Sudan since April 2023. The conflict, which pits the Sudanese Army against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to widespread destruction, displacement, and loss of life across the country, particularly in the capital, Khartoum.
