Sudanese Army Advances in Khartoum After Over 600 Days of Conflict

In a significant development in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, the Sudanese army has regained control of the General Command headquarters in Khartoum, marking a major breakthrough after months of siege and isolation. This move has allowed the army to reconnect with troops from other regions across the country, creating a moment of unity and renewed hope.

The celebrations are taking place all over Sudan

Residents across the capital are celebrating alongside the army as they witness the reconnection of forces and the breaking of a 21-month-long siege in the capital. The army’s progress signals a turning point in the battle against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has left much of the city in ruins and millions displaced.

Al-Jaili Oil refinery has also been secured by the army

Another key victory came with the army’s recapture of the Al-Jaili oil refinery, located 70 km north of Khartoum.

Once a critical hub for Sudan’s fuel supply and economy, the refinery had been under RSF control since April 2023. Although damaged, the site’s liberation marks a symbolic and strategic win, underscoring the army’s determination to restore control over essential infrastructure.

The humanitarian crisis is still the largest in the world right now

Despite these advancements, the conflict continues to take a devastating toll on Sudanese communities. Millions remain displaced, and access to basic necessities like food and medical aid is still a challenge.

In Khartoum, many areas have been cut off from aid for over a year, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.

Despite the chaos, organizations like Khartoum Aid Kitchen have quickly scaled up their efforts, delivering aid to previously unreachable areas.

These efforts are critical in combating widespread hunger and supporting communities on the brink.
