Socialising is a way of life in Sudan! In our vibrant land, we like to extend our “family and friends” circle to the point where if you know two Sudanese people, chances are they have already crossed paths, whether at a wedding, gathering, function, exhibition, etc.
Grab your shai be laban and enjoy our round-up of the top 10 moments the Sudanese community will always cherish.
A celebration steeped in joy, tradition, and beauty!
Sudanese traditional weddings vary from culture to culture, but what makes them all so special is the beautiful vibrant colours, the rhythmic beat of the music, and most importantly the contagious laughter and greetings bouncing off the walls of the reception halls/ haboba’s 7osh!
Our favourite thing about Sudani weddings is the attire – the women wrapped up in their glittery and elegant tiyaab – a beautiful symbol of what art is to Sudanese people!
This is evident in weddings when women show off their flowing garments oozing with radiant yellows, blues, pinks, and purples! The splendid embroidery is a specific masterpiece indicator of the delicate artistic energy that lies within the soul of our people!

If there’s one thing we know as a community – it’s that being on time is an extreme sport!
The only meeting any Sudani will truly attempt to be on time for is the ultimate Ozone breakfast – if the Egg Benedict wasn’t your favourite on the menu, you’re lying.

There’s no doubt that everyone can recall one specific back-and-forth argument with a Raksha driver!
There’s nothing like the victory of going back home with a 30% discount on your Raksha trip in exchange for some good wanasa along the way!
Picture this:
You call in sick from work/university because al jao oroobi on a random November morning and your friends are insisting you meet up at your favourite Sit Al Shai spot in Nile Street.
That’s the start of what any Sudani would call a 10/10 day.
German, American, Syrian, or Coptic club; it did NOT matter which one you and your friends decided on going to this weekend as long as the whole gang was pulling up for a basketball game!
P.S: You weren’t a real member of the German Club if you hadn’t waited all week for DJ Khalid to come on.

We were just at the dukkan but you forgot to get a drink? Have no fear! You and your cousins will be sprinting back, not only to grab your Pasgianos, but here’s the perfect excuse to buy two more bags full of snacks!

If you are Sudanese and have had the pleasure of attending a gh’ada in Beit Haboba you know that nothing hits like food with family.
The energy that radiates whilst sharing delicious food (care for some gorasa and mullah?), storytelling, and joke-cracking on the dining table are unmatched!
Ever had that awkward moment when you shake a non-Sudanese person’s hand after saying hi?
The reflex of knowing that a handshake is coming after a greeting is what shaped Sudan as a whole! The aroma of hospitality is always so dear.
We can all agree on the way that Abdel Karim Alkabli’s jazzy sounds resonate with us all. With that being said, you walk into a wedding and you hear this… need I say more?
