⚠️ Kuwait Recalls Anker Power Banks Over Fire Risk

Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent recall notice for five models of Anker power banks due to a serious safety risk. The Ministry’s announcement aims to protect consumers from possible harm after Anker flagged that some of its power banks contain lithium-ion battery cells that could overheat during use.

Affected Models:

The affected models are A1257, A1647, A1652, A1681, and A1689, and they were manufactured between September 2023 and February 2025. Anker, which is one of the most popular brands for portable chargers and accessories, discovered that these particular batches may pose a risk of overheating. In extreme cases, the batteries can melt, produce smoke, or even catch fire, putting people and property in danger.

Full Recall

This recall affects a large number of customers in Kuwait and around the region. Many people rely on portable chargers every day, whether at school, at work, or while travelling. Because these power banks are so commonly used in bags, cars, and near other electronics, the risk of overheating or catching fire is especially concerning.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is urging all customers who purchased any of these five models to stop using them immediately. Consumers are advised to check the model number, which is usually printed on the back or bottom of the power bank. If your device matches any of the affected codes, you should return it to the store or retailer where you bought it. According to the Ministry’s statement, customers are entitled to either a full refund or a replacement unit that is safe to use.

Anker has also released a statement apologizing to its customers for the inconvenience and thanking them for their understanding and cooperation. The company said it is committed to the highest standards of product safety and quality. Anker will work with retailers in Kuwait to ensure that all affected units are removed from shelves and replaced with safe alternatives.

For extra safety, experts recommend storing power banks in cool, dry places and avoiding leaving them plugged in for long periods without supervision. If you ever notice your power bank becoming unusually hot, swelling, or producing a strange smell, you should stop using it immediately and unplug it from any device.
