Kuwait’s maritime fleet is once again proving that when it comes to saving lives at sea, it’s always ready to step up. A Kuwaiti tanker recently rescued 45 people from a sinking boat off the Greek coast — showing that Kuwait’s values of helping others extend far beyond its borders.
The rescue happened after Greek authorities sent out an urgent call about a vessel in distress 60 miles off Greece’s shoreline. The Kuwaiti tanker Bahra was nearby — and immediately changed course to help. Within hours, all 45 people were safely on board and out of harm’s way.
Once rescued, everyone was given water, food, and shelter on the Kuwaiti ship — a lifeline in the middle of the Mediterranean. By the next day, the Bahra reached Crete, where the group was safely handed over to Greek authorities, following all international maritime protocols.
This isn’t the first time a Kuwaiti vessel has turned into a lifeboat for people in danger. Just last month, another Kuwaiti tanker rescued 40 people stranded at sea. And back in 2014, a Kuwaiti tanker carried out what’s still the world’s largest sea rescue — saving 536 lives off the Italian coast.
From the Gulf to the Mediterranean, Kuwait’s fleet keeps proving that at sea, a Kuwaiti flag often means help is on the way.
