Kuwait Affirmed Commitment To Combatting Hate Speech

Kuwait is standing firm in its fight against hate speech, and it’s not just talk. Attorney Kawthar Al-Jouan, President of the Women’s Institute for Development and Peace, recently highlighted the country’s strong commitment to tackling hateful rhetoric across all levels: locally, regionally, and globally, addressing growing concerns, particularly in the digital world.

A Clear message from leadership

Speaking on the matter, Al-Jouan emphasized Kuwait’s consistent stance under the guidance of its leadership. She pointed to the Kuwaiti Constitution, which protects freedom of expression, but also stressed that this freedom comes with responsibility. According to Kuwait times, She referenced His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad’s recent Ramadan address, where he called on the nation to hold on to values of love, hope, and peace.

From cyberbullying to harmful comments, she highlighted the need to act before digital harm turns into real-world consequences.

Standing for peace and unity

As the world marked the International Day for Combating Hate Speech on June 18, Al-Jouan used the occasion to reflect on the core values that matter most, peace, kindness, and unity. She reminded the public that Islam has always stood for these values, rejecting extremism and encouraging unity.

She also stressed the importance of promoting media literacy and cultural awareness, building a community rooted in dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect is more important than ever.

Echoing her sentiment, His Highness the Amir also called for the end of conflict, the power of reason, and the need to follow international law, all in pursuit of a safer, more peaceful world.
