Al Aqar Village Enchanted Visitors With Its Summer Charm

Al Aqar Village in Jabal Al Akhdar proved itself a top spot for both local and international travelers seeking a refreshing summer escape and a deep dive into Oman’s rich history. Known for its pleasant climate and ancient roots, this village offered stunning views and a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. It truly became a beloved retreat for those looking for an authentic Omani experience.

Al Aqar Village Embraced Its Natural Splendor

Al Aqar Village always stood out as a prime tourist location within Al Jabal Al Akhdar, providing breathtaking panoramas of nearby villages like Al Ain, Al Uyaynah, and Al Sharijah. Visitors discovered the lush agricultural terraces, fed by natural springs and streams, creating a serene landscape. A highlight for many was witnessing the annual rose harvest, a vibrant tradition typically unfolding in April and May. The ancient Al A’war Falaj, originating in Al Ain village, impressively irrigated a variety of fruit trees, including pomegranates, apricots, and walnuts, alongside the famous roses.

Local Ventures Revived Heritage Homes

Local residents thoughtfully restored and operated the village’s historic houses, transforming them into diverse services such as heritage inns, charming restaurants, and captivating museums. These youth-led initiatives aimed to protect Al Aqar’s heritage and revitalize its traditional homes, ensuring a comfortable experience for guests while respecting resident life. The Suspended Terraces Lodge, a notable project, opened its doors in September 2023, meticulously restoring three traditional houses with original materials to offer 11 rooms and a dining area.

Economic Growth Sparked Community Spirit

The village experienced significant economic growth, greatly benefiting house and farm owners, along with other tourism businesses. Many old houses found new life as tourist attractions, including quaint inns, cozy cafes, and insightful museums, directly boosting local incomes. This development not only created new job opportunities for Omani youth but also provided a vital platform for marketing local products, traditional meals, and unique handicrafts from the Al Jabal Al Akhdar families. Yousef bin Nasser Al Amri confirmed this ongoing progress, mentioning a new café and two additional heritage inn projects totaling an estimated OMR 200,000.
