IKEA’s Globally Local initiative pairs Scandinavian design principles with Omani artistry and heritage, reimagining much‑loved IKEA pieces through a distinctly local lens.
Roza Moulaei, Communications and Interior Design Manager at IKEA Oman, explains the inspiration:
“The idea came from a deep appreciation for Oman’s heritage and evolving modern identity. The ‘Globally Local’ initiative celebrates Arab artistry, merging IKEA’s design with the cultural lens of the region. It creates pieces that are rooted in tradition yet confidently contemporary.”
Local customers show a deep connection to Oman’s heritage and a desire for homes that reflect identity and cultural stories.
“The ‘Globally Local’ concept resonates because it allows the celebration of culture through design, where functionality meets emotional connection,” says Roza.

“Encountering these pieces in-store inspires pride and a sense of belonging. Each creation tells a story, highlighting craftsmanship, materials, and motifs reimagined for modern living. Everyday objects can carry rich emotional and cultural significance.”
Mohammed Al Attar, the artist behind the designs, shares a personal touch:
“One of the most meaningful pieces comes from my late grandmother. Her rich, aromatic coffee served with halwa created moments of togetherness. Soft curves and woven patterns echo the finjan and coffee, paired with jewellery-inspired accents reflecting family traditions. This memory is familiar to many Omanis—grandmother, halwa, coffee, warmth.”
The fusion of Omani colours with IKEA’s Scandinavian design offer a fresh take on much‑loved pieces:
“Oman is not just beige and sand—it is pomegranate reds, kummah blues, silver khanjar tones, and rich golds. Integrating these colours into Scandinavian lines, with khanjar curves and pomegranate-inspired patterns, captures Oman perfectly within IKEA’s world.”
The goal is to evoke emotions that go beyond design:
“These pieces bring warmth and familiarity, the joy of family traditions, pride in the khanjar, and the beauty of seasonal rituals. The collection reflects a culture that is alive, evolving, and confident on a global stage, while staying true to its roots.”

With Globally Local, IKEA goes beyond furniture, sharing Oman’s story through every reimagined piece.
