Travelers hoping to zip between Muscat and Kannur with IndiGo will have to put their plans on pause. The airline has pressed the brakes on this popular route, leaving many expats and holidaymakers searching for alternatives.
IndiGo’s Muscat–Kannur flights had become a lifeline for Oman’s large Keralite community, offering a direct and wallet-friendly way to visit home. The service, which took off in mid-May, quickly gained fans for its thrice-weekly schedule and budget fares. But as the summer heat rolled in, so did a chill in ticket demand, prompting the airline to rethink its plans.
Travel agencies got the heads-up about the suspension well before the last flight took off, but IndiGo kept things hush-hush with the public. Passengers who had already snagged tickets for later dates didn’t have to worry, though—the airline made sure everyone got their money back. According to insiders, the decision was all about the numbers: with Eid holidays over and fewer travelers heading to Kerala, the route just wasn’t flying high enough.
While the Muscat–Kannur route may have taken a break, the story isn’t over. With enough demand, IndiGo could bring back the flights in the future. For now, Oman’s expats will have to get creative with their travel plans—and keep an eye on the skies for the next big announcement.
