Muttrah Cable Car Enters Test Run Phase as Viral Video Shows Trial Operations

The Muttrah Cable Car project in Muscat is edging closer to reality, with test runs reportedly underway — and a newly circulated video showing cabins in motion has sparked major excitement online.

The project, which is being developed as one of Oman’s most ambitious tourism attractions, is currently in its final construction and testing stages. Officials have previously confirmed that installation works and system testing have begun as the project moves toward completion ahead of its expected opening in early 2026.

The cable car system is designed to connect key landmarks across Muttrah, including the Muttrah Port area, Riyam Park hillside, and Kalbuh/Al Hay Al Ward area, offering panoramic views of the historic coastline and mountains.

Once operational, the system will feature around 18 cabins, each carrying up to 8 passengers, and is expected to transport hundreds of visitors per hour while serving as both a transport link and a major tourism experience.

Reports indicate that the project is now in its final phase, with equipment installation and operational testing progressing steadily after reaching significant completion milestones over the past months.

Developed with Swiss ropeway technology and positioned as a flagship tourism attraction, the Muttrah Cable Car is expected to significantly boost visitor numbers and enhance Muscat’s growing reputation as a global tourism destination.

As the test runs continue, anticipation is building — and if the viral footage is anything to go by, Oman’s skyline experience is about to level up in a big way.
